We’re big on kindness here. I’m constantly in awe of my physician colleagues, how do they keep so many things in their heads? But the thing is, everybody starts somewhere. This article has lots of tips for new Doctors from Nurses. Tips like this: “Remember, you are part of our team. Our job is to work together in the interests of patient care. We will try to look after you, make you tea when you’re sad and, rest assured, we will tell you when you’re being an idiot.” What would you add? That’s Grinch Nurse trouble work shirt. Thank you!

I would like to speak up for some families who work either in retail or hoteling, or any other profession that requires them to work on holidays. Listen, in my family, that was normal, and people were happy for the extra money. Folks got together between meals at the hotel, or afterwards and ate dinner. Holidays sometimes meant time and a half, better tips from folks who came to the hotel to stay, and yeah, everybody was tired, but I started working there when I was 15 and we had fun eating Thanksgiving dinner in the cafeteria, people coming down to the house after work and after the dining room closed.
It was normal for us. Kennedy won’t be around for Thanksgiving or Xmas because she has a job with a network that requires the same sort of on duty on holidays, soldiers aren’t home, secret service people aren’t either. We make the best of what we have, and for some of us, it is not the worst thing going, and while employers might be awful for a lot of other reasons, being open on holidays is standard operating procedures. Policemen, fireman, nurses, doctors, we are all okay… and more often than not, it is NOT a tragedy. Thanks.
